Kumbhalgarh Fort is one of India's most magnificent hill forts, located in the Aravalli Hills of Rajasthan. Built in the 15th century by Rana Kumbha, it is famous for its massive defensive wall stretching over 36 kilometers, often called the "Great Wall of India." 📜 History
Kumbhalgarh Fort is one of the most remarkable forts in Rajasthan and an important part of India's rich history. It was built during the 15th century by the great Rajput ruler Rana Kumbha, who ruled the Kingdom of Mewar. The construction of the fort began around 1443 AD and took several years to complete. Due to its strong walls and strategic location in the Aravalli Hills, the fort was considered almost impossible to capture. One of the most significant events connected with Kumbhalgarh Fort is the birth of Maharana Pratap, the legendary warrior of Mewar, in 1540. He spent part of his childhood inside this fort before becoming one of the greatest Rajput kings in Indian history.
The fort also served as a safe shelter for the rulers of Mewar during difficult times. Whenever Chittorgarh Fort was attacked, the royal family often took refuge here because of its strong defence system. Interestingly, Kumbhalgarh Fort remained unconquered for many years. It was captured only once when the combined armies of Mughal emperor Akbar, along with the rulers of Amber, Marwar and Gujarat, surrounded the fort. Even then, it is believed that the fort fell only after its water supply ran out. Today, Kumbhalgarh Fort stands as a proud symbol of Rajput bravery, brilliant architecture, and the determination to protect the kingdom against powerful enemies.
