About Girnar

Girnar is a sacred mountain complex situated in Junagadh district of Gujarat. Considered one of the oldest geological formations in India, the mountain range consists of several peaks, the highest reaching approximately 1,118 meters (3,668 feet) above sea level. The site is renowned for its religious, historical, and ecological significance.

For centuries, Girnar has attracted pilgrims from across India. The mountain hosts numerous Hindu and Jain temples, including the famous Jain temple complex dedicated to Lord Neminath, the 22nd Tirthankara. Hindu devotees visit the temples of Goddess Ambaji, Guru Dattatreya, and Gorakhnath situated on various peaks. One of the most distinctive features of Girnar is its steep stairway comprising more than 9,000 steps leading to the highest shrines. The climb is physically demanding but rewards visitors with spectacular views of Junagadh city, surrounding hills, and forests. In recent years, the Girnar Ropeway has made access easier for pilgrims and tourists, offering stunning aerial views.

The mountain lies within the Girnar Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to diverse flora and fauna, including leopards, hyenas, jackals, and numerous bird species. Nature lovers and photographers often visit the sanctuary for its rich biodiversity.
Girnar also hosts the famous Bhavnath Fair during the festival of Maha Shivaratri, attracting thousands of devotees and sadhus. The combination of spirituality, adventure, heritage, and natural beauty makes Girnar one of Gujarat's most remarkable tourist destinations.

Whether visitors seek religious fulfillment, historical exploration, trekking challenges, or scenic landscapes, Girnar offers a memorable experience that blends culture and nature in a unique setting.
