Trekking DestinationGirnar is a sacred mountain complex situated in Junagadh district of Gujarat. The mountain hosts numerous Hindu and Jain temples, including the famous Jain temple complex dedicated to Lord Neminath, the 22nd Tirthankara. Hindu devotees visit the temples of Goddess Ambaji, Guru Dattatreya, and Gorakhnath situated on various peaks. One of the most distinctive features of Girnar is its steep stairway comprising more than 9,000 steps leading to the highest shrines. The climb is physically demanding but rewards visitors with spectacular views of Junagadh city, surrounding hills, and forests. In recent years, the Girnar Ropeway has made access easier for pilgrims and tourists, offering stunning aerial views.
The mountain lies within the Girnar Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to diverse flora and fauna, including leopards, hyenas, jackals, and numerous bird species. Nature lovers and photographers often visit the sanctuary for its rich biodiversity.
