नेतरहाट, जिसे "छोटानागपुर की रानी" कहा जाता है, झारखंड के सबसे पुराने और प्रसिद्ध हिल स्टेशनों में से एक है। इसका इतिहास ब्रिटिश शासनकाल से जुड़ा हुआ है। उन्नीसवीं शताब्दी के अंत में अंग्रेज अधिकारी गर्मियों की तेज़ गर्मी से राहत पाने के लिए ठंडी और शांत जगहों की तलाश में थे। इसी दौरान उनकी नज़र नेतरहाट की खूबसूरत पहाड़ियों, घने जंगलों और सुहावने मौसम पर पड़ी। यह स्थान उन्हें इतना पसंद आया कि उन्होंने यहाँ सड़कें, विश्राम गृह और अन्य आवश्यक सुविधाएँ विकसित करनी शुरू कर दीं।
नेतरहाट की पहचान को और अधिक प्रसिद्धि 1954 में स्थापित नेतरहाट आवासीय विद्यालय ने दिलाई। यह विद्यालय अपनी उत्कृष्ट शिक्षा, अनुशासन और शानदार परिणामों के कारण पूरे देश में जाना जाने लगा। आज भी इसे भारत के प्रतिष्ठित विद्यालयों में गिना जाता है।
