📜 History
Mount Abu, the only hill station of Rajasthan, has a rich history that goes back thousands of years. According to Hindu mythology, this peaceful hill was once known as Arbudanchal and is believed to be the place where the great sage Vashistha performed a sacred yajna (fire ritual). It is also said that the Agnikula Rajputs were born from this holy fire, making Mount Abu an important place in Rajput history. Over the centuries, the region was ruled by several Rajput dynasties, especially the Chauhans and the Deora rulers. During the 11th and 13th centuries, Mount Abu became famous for the construction of the magnificent Dilwara Jain Temples. These temples are still admired for their extraordinary marble carvings and fine craftsmanship.
In the British period, Mount Abu gained importance as a summer retreat because of its pleasant weather. The British Government developed the town and made it the summer headquarters of the Rajputana Agency. Many colonial-style buildings, churches, and government offices were built during this time, some of which can still be seen today. Today, Mount Abu beautifully combines mythology, royal heritage, religious significance, and colonial history. Its historical monuments, ancient temples, and peaceful surroundings continue to attract pilgrims, history lovers, and tourists from across India and abroad.
