About Jog Falls

Jog Falls, also known as Joga Falls or Gerusoppa Falls, is one of Karnataka's most famous natural attractions. Situated in the Western Ghats on the Sharavathi River, the waterfall plunges dramatically from a height of about 253 meters (830 feet), making it one of the tallest plunge waterfalls in India. The falls are formed by four separate streams known as Raja, Rani, Roarer, and Rocket, each creating a unique visual effect as they descend into a deep gorge below.

During the monsoon season, heavy rainfall fills the Sharavathi River, transforming Jog Falls into a roaring curtain of water. The surrounding hills become covered with lush greenery, creating an enchanting landscape that attracts thousands of visitors. Mist rising from the waterfall often forms rainbows, enhancing the scenic beauty of the region.
Several viewpoints have been developed around the falls, allowing visitors to enjoy panoramic views from different angles. Adventure seekers can descend hundreds of steps leading toward the base of the waterfall, where the immense power of the cascading water can be experienced up close. Trekking, photography, sightseeing, and nature walks are popular activities in the area.

The region around Jog Falls is rich in biodiversity and forms part of the Western Ghats ecosystem. Nearby attractions such as Linganamakki Dam, Sharavathi Wildlife Sanctuary, Honnemaradu, and Murudeshwar make it an ideal destination for an extended trip. Visitors can also enjoy evening illumination and laser shows during tourist seasons. With its majestic scenery, powerful waterfalls, and serene environment, Jog Falls remains one of the most visited natural wonders in South India.
