Bibi Ka Maqbara is one of Maharashtra's most famous historical monuments and is often called the "Taj of the Deccan." It was built in the 17th century by Prince Azam Shah in memory of his mother, Dilras Banu Begum, the wife of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. 📜 History
Bibi Ka Maqbara is one of the most important historical monuments in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. It was built between 1660 and 1668 by Prince Azam Shah, the son of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, in memory of his beloved mother, Dilras Banu Begum, who was also known as Rabia-ud-Durrani. The monument was created as a symbol of a son's love and respect for his mother. Many people call it the "Mini Taj Mahal" because its design looks similar to the Taj Mahal in Agra. However, there is an interesting reason behind this. Aurangzeb was known for living a simple life and did not support spending large amounts of money on grand buildings. Because of this, the budget for Bibi Ka Maqbara was much lower than that of the Taj Mahal. Instead of using white marble throughout the structure, only the main dome was built with marble, while the rest of the monument was made using basalt stone covered with fine plaster. Over the years, Bibi Ka Maqbara has witnessed the rise and fall of the Mughal Empire and later came under the rule of the Nizams of Hyderabad before being protected by the Archaeological Survey of India. Today, it stands as a reminder of Mughal architecture, family affection, and the rich history of the Deccan region.
