About Orchha

Orchha is one of the most remarkable heritage destinations in India, situated in the Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh along the picturesque Betwa River. Established in 1501 by Bundela ruler Rudra Pratap Singh, Orchha served as the capital of the Bundela kingdom and flourished as a center of art, architecture, and culture. Today, the town is renowned for its well-preserved palaces, temples, forts, and royal cenotaphs.

The Orchha Fort Complex is the main attraction, featuring architectural masterpieces such as Jahangir Mahal, Raja Mahal, and Rai Praveen Mahal. Jahangir Mahal was built to commemorate the visit of Mughal Emperor Jahangir and reflects a blend of Mughal and Rajput styles. Raja Mahal is known for its beautiful murals depicting scenes from Hindu mythology.

Another unique attraction is Ram Raja Temple, the only temple in India where Lord Rama is worshipped as a king. Chaturbhuj Temple impresses visitors with its towering structure and panoramic views. Lakshmi Narayan Temple is famous for its wall paintings and unique architectural design.

The Chhatris (royal cenotaphs) along the Betwa River provide stunning views, especially during sunrise and sunset. Adventure enthusiasts can enjoy river rafting, nature walks, and photography around the riverbanks.

Orchha is also known for its peaceful atmosphere, traditional culture, and annual festivals that celebrate the region's heritage. The town offers visitors a perfect blend of history, spirituality, architecture, and natural beauty. Whether you are interested in exploring ancient monuments, attending religious ceremonies, or enjoying scenic landscapes, Orchha promises a memorable travel experience.
