Agra Fort is one of India's most magnificent historical monuments and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built mainly by Emperor Akbar in the 16th century, this massive red sandstone fort served as the primary residence of the Mughal emperors. Spread across nearly 94 acres, Agra Fort is enclosed by imposing walls rising over 20 meters high. Notable attractions include Jahangiri Mahal, a stunning palace built for the royal family; Khas Mahal, a beautiful marble residence; and Musamman Burj, an elegant octagonal tower associated with Emperor Shah Jahan.
The fort also contains Diwan-i-Aam (Hall of Public Audience) and Diwan-i-Khas (Hall of Private Audience), where emperors conducted state affairs and received distinguished guests. One of the most fascinating stories connected with Agra Fort is that Shah Jahan, the builder of the Taj Mahal, spent his final years imprisoned here by his son Aurangzeb. From Musamman Burj, he is believed to have gazed at the Taj Mahal until his death.

📜 History
Agra Fort is one of the most important historical monuments in India. Before the grand red sandstone fort that we see today, there was an old brick fort known as Badalgarh. In 1565, Mughal Emperor Akbar decided to rebuild it using red sandstone and turned it into a strong military fort as well as his royal residence. The construction took around eight years and was completed in 1573.
Akbar built several palaces, halls, and courtyards inside the fort. Later, his grandson Shah Jahan made many changes by replacing some of the red sandstone buildings with beautiful white marble structures. Famous places like the Khas Mahal, Musamman Burj, and Diwan-i-Khas were added during his reign.
One of the most well-known incidents connected with Agra Fort happened in 1658. Shah Jahan was imprisoned here by his own son, Aurangzeb, after taking over the Mughal throne. It is believed that Shah Jahan spent the last eight years of his life inside the Musamman Burj, where he could see the Taj Mahal, the final resting place of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, from a distance.
Over the centuries, Agra Fort witnessed many battles and changes in power. After the Mughals, it came under the control of the Marathas, then the British. Today, it is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and stands as a symbol of India's rich Mughal history.
