Auroville, also known as the “City of Dawn,” is a unique experimental township founded in 1968 by Mirra Alfassa (The Mother), a spiritual collaborator of Sri Aurobindo. It was envisioned as a place where people from all countries, cultures, and beliefs could live together in harmony beyond religion, politics, and nationality.

Located about 10 km north of Puducherry, Auroville is home to people from over 50 countries. The town is organized into zones—Residential, Cultural, Industrial, and International—surrounded by a large green belt focused on environmental restoration. The spiritual and architectural centerpiece of Auroville is the Matrimandir, a golden spherical structure used for silent meditation.

Auroville emphasizes sustainability, organic farming, renewable energy, education, and conscious living, making it a popular destination for spiritual seekers, eco-tourists, and curious travelers.
