About Fatehpur Sikri

Fatehpur Sikri is a historic city founded in 1571 by Mughal Emperor Akbar as the capital of his empire. Built primarily from red sandstone, the city represents a brilliant fusion of Indo-Islamic, Persian, and Indian architectural styles. Though it served as the Mughal capital for only about 14 years due to water scarcity, Fatehpur Sikri remains one of the best-preserved Mughal complexes in India.
The city includes grand structures such as Buland Darwaza, one of the tallest gateways in the world; Jama Masjid, a large congregational mosque; Diwan-i-Aam (Hall of Public Audience); Diwan-i-Khas (Hall of Private Audience); Panch Mahal; Jodha Bai’s Palace; and the revered Tomb of Salim Chishti, a white marble Sufi shrine visited by pilgrims from all faiths.
Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Fatehpur Sikri is a living testament to Mughal planning, art, and cultural harmony, making it a must-visit destination for history lovers and tourists.
