Pilgrimage SiteChamundi Hills rises to an elevation of approximately 1,065 meters (3,497 ft) above sea level and is named after Goddess Chamundeshwari, the presiding deity of Mysuru. The hill has immense religious importance and is considered one of the 18 Maha Shakti Peethas by devotees.
At the summit stands the historic Chamundeshwari Temple, built in Dravidian architectural style. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Chamundeshwari (a form of Durga) who is believed to have killed the demon Mahishasura — from whom Mysuru derives its name (Mahishuru).
Halfway up the hill lies a massive monolithic Nandi Statue Mysore, carved in the 17th century during the reign of the Wodeyars. It is one of the largest Nandi statues in India.
The hill offers breathtaking panoramic views of Mysuru city, especially beautiful during sunrise and sunset.
